Destination

The Newbury area is one of huge variety making it a great destination for short breaks, extending a business trip or a super day out. Great road links from the M4 motorway, the A34 trunk road and the A4 and the rail connections straight from London Paddington make it extremely easy to reach.

What's on Offer

Amenities

The countryside surrounding Newbury is part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs right through the district from the outskirts of Reading to Hungerford.

Places to Visit

Shaw House is the largest Elizabethan house in Berkshire, restored in 2007. Highclere Castle, the family home of the Carnarvon’s, of Tutankhamen fame has hit the headlines again in 2010 as Downton Abbey in the hugely popular TV series. Other attractions include Beale Park wildlife park and gardens, Bucklebury Farm Park and Basildon House, a National Trust property.
Also very close by is Donnington Castle, an English Heritage property which saw prolonged action during the Civil War and the heathland of Greenham Common, once renowned for the anti nuclear protests but now a wonderful open landscape accessible to all.

Entertainment

The Corn Exchange arts centre provides a wide variety of entertainment. The Watermill Theatre at Bagnor is one of the UKs most successful producing theatres.

Shopping

Newbury offers a great environment for shopping with lots of town centre parking, a pedestranised high street and lots of cafes and restaurants. The retail offer is a good mix of well known high street names and local independents. In October 2011 the town became an even more attractive shopping destination with the opening of Parkway, an open street development in the heart of the town. Hungeford is well worth a visit; it is a haven for antiques with many shops, centres and a regular antique market in the Town Hall. It also has an eclectic mix of good independent shops. Pangbourne also has a charming high street with interesting shops.

Eating Out

The Newbury area has some first class places to eat. For Sunday lunch, a bite to eat before the theatre or a ploughman's at the end of a walk there are many pubs and restaurants to choose from across the district.

Recreation & Sport

Newbury is home to a top class racecourse as well as being home to the country's finest racing stables. If you like to spend time on the golf course, coarse fishing or strolling along the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal, cycling or cantering over the rolling Berkshire Downs, there is plenty to offer everyone.

Conference & Business Facilities

The area boasts first class conference facilities and delegate accommodation. From hotel conference suites and unique venues including Newbury's racecourse, to stately homes and sporting centres, conference organisers are certain to find the perfect conference venue. http://www.visitnewbury.org.uk/meet-and-celebrate/
