Destination

A warm welcome from Swale! Spread along the North Kent Coast, the Borough of Swale embraces Sittingbourne, Faversham and the Isle of Sheppey as well as the surrounding towns and villages dotted amongst the glorious Kent countryside. Attractive orchards, extensive farmlands and pretty villages nestle alongside popular beaches, maritime marshland and idyllic sailing waters, all of which make up Swale - where countryside meets the coast.

Amenities

The Isle of Sheppey has many popular and award winning beaches. The beaches here provide a clean and safe environment for the family, with lifeguards, traditional seaside amusements, picnic areas, children's play area, a sandpit and leisure complex and pool. There is also a bike area, ball court and adventure play area. Leysdown is a traditional and lively seaside resort and has welcomed visitors for generations. The promenade offers clubs and pubs with live music, karaoke, cabaret and disco. Traditional amusements and the nearby Coastal Park offers picnic areas, pitch and putt and a nature trail. There is also a naturist beach at Shellness.

Places to Visit

Swale offers a variety of places to visit. Experience festivals and events. Visit farm shops, historic buildings and much more. Linger in the coastal parks, enjoy heritage centres, ride steam railways and indulge yourself in a whole host of pubs and restaurants. Swale is able to boast Britain's oldest brewery (Sheperd Neame, based in Faversham) giving many of its pubs and restaurants a unique local twist.

Entertainment

Entertainment can be found in the forms of karting, greyhound racing, the Central Park Stadium, Merry-Go-Round, theatres and cinemas. Not forgetting the many pubs, clubs and events held throughout the year.

Shopping

The town centres of Sittingbourne, Faversham and the Isle of Sheppey provide high street retailers mixed with small independent shops. There are also weekly markets in these towns. Sittingbourne's market day is Friday, with Faversham having market days on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Sheerness has its market on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Swale has a wide range of restaurants, eateries, take-aways and public houses that cater for all tastes.

Sporting facilities in Swale include Sheerness Golf Club, Queenborough Harbour Boat Services and Sittingbourne Snooker Centre. Leisure facilities include The Swallows Leisure Centre, Sheppey Leisure Complex and Faversham Swimming Pool; Nature Reserves and water sports.

Getting There

Road

Swale is accessible from the M2, M20 and A2 routes through Kent.

Rail

Provide a direct link to Canterbury and the Channel Ports of Ramsgate and Dover as well as London (Victoria).

Sea

The nearest channel ports are Dover and Ramsgate.

Air

Closest international airports are London Heathrow and London Gatwick.
