At the Midland Railway – Butterley, near Ripley there is one of the largest and most varied railway collections with trains running on some three miles of track, including the narrow gauge railway and stationary engine workshops.

The magnificent woodlands valley compliment the towns and villages, which grew out of the early cotton spinning industry and are now designated a World Heritage Site. Strutt’s North Mill in Belper contains examples of early cotton spinning machines and the finest collection of stockings made during the nineteenth century.
